First Class done, WooHooo!

Yesterday, we took the first step of the long journey. We had a full house (get it?) of Noen, Vy, Chris, and Deej. Hac helped me teach which made me pretty happy because I had some concepts I know I did not do a great job explainin. Also, we were able to focus on the students a lot better.

We went over the concepts of EV, Odds (pot and implied) and more in-depth into preflop play. I gave out a handout with a chart of the specific hands to play from each position.

Ideas for the next class:

  • Lab Type sessions (partner)
  • 10 Questions that I ask to make sure everyone understood.
  • More focus on playing fewer tables and slowing down the action (sitting out) at tables to catch students up on concepts. We'll stop focusing as much on results as much and worry more about learning.
  • Discussing tough hands of sessions.
  • How else can we be more effective?

I think we're going to run the class twice a week instead of three times because it takes too long for everyone to come out. We'll be able to run the class longer and get everyone a free meal more easily if we run it twice a week. Good luck.
