My line of thinking was that he may call with qx lower than 10, 8x, maybe even a weaker bluff catcher such as 4x, 6x, or pocket pairs, so I had some value. Also, my line doesn't look like it makes any sense, which may encourage him to call with more hands. Finally, I think he would value bet the river with an Ace, so I did this play not only for value but to get to showdown cheap(definition of a blocking bet). 

PS: Stuart Paterson is a cripple.
