Class 4 Done!

Class 4 just finished officially at 4:35AM with Deej leaving the house after a long grueling session (results later).  The topic of today's class was pot control.

A little review:  Conventionally, we've been taught to be super aggressive poker players.  That means always c-betting flops and always putting the maximum pressure on our opponents to make them fold.  However, in many cases, we can make more money by keeping them in the hand.  For example, it's better if he bluffs into us (and we catch him) with a hopeless hand than if he were to fold it to our bet.

Pot control simply means controlling the size of the pot:  inflating the pot with our big hands and keeping the size of the pot smaller with our marginal hand.  We do this by checking instead of betting or raising.

Anyway, after the lecture and hands challenge, we did our normal 2 and 2 session with Noen and Chris and DJ and Vy.  As normal, DJ and Vy started off miserable.  They ran bad and couldn't catch a break.  Chris and Noen started off hot and finished their session up $381 or almost 4 buyins at $..5/$1.  I feel like Chris and Noen have a much better grasp of pot control after today.

So around 2AM, Chris, Vy and Noen went home (understandable cuz they have jobs/kids).  DJ continued to grind 6-8 tables and we were down a ton.  Even though we backed him up on the plays that we made, I could sense the discomfort in him.  Last session, they lost 3 buyins ($1200) and it looked like another big losing session (-$2000).  Anyway, DJ continued to grind for a couple more hours never tilting and making solid plays.  At the end, he made a very impressive comeback.  I was pretty proud of his effort.  Kid's got a lot of heart.

Great job everyone.  I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but I'll be back next week for our class.

I'll leave you guys with these cool pictures.
